    Macrocosmic Baby

    A macrocosmic baby is an infant born significantly larger than average, typically weighing over 4,000 grams (4 kg) at birth. This condition is also known as macrosomia.

    Causes:

    • Maternal diabetes (especially gestational diabetes)
    • Prolonged pregnancy
    • Maternal obesity
    • Previous macrosomic baby

    Risks:

    • Birth complications (e.g., shoulder dystocia)
    • Increased risk of C-section
    • Neonatal hypoglycemia
    • Later-life obesity and metabolic disorders

    Management:

    • Monitor maternal blood sugar
    • Regular prenatal ultrasounds to estimate fetal weight
    • Early delivery if necessary
